Quality Time

Waiting outside my son's school, a parent casually mentioned "i used to spend better quality time with my son when i had lesser time. Now that i have much more time on hand, he sees the worst in me"

The conversation got me thinking
Even though this statement represents a paradox. Its a reality for many of us

Most of our lives are driven by scarcity.
Precious life decisions are made when confronted with a difficult situation
We realize the value of people when they disappear from our lives
No No .. the topic is not morose

Quality time translates to !
a) Investment on a person in terms of praise, growth, development, fun, joy... Not only time.
b) Relating from a "guilt free" / " non compensatory" position
c) Mutuality - it cannot be "only" your need to spend time
d) being aware of changing expectations across relationships (age, emotional stage of relationship...)

I love Stephen Covey 's concept "emotional bank accounts". Review your relationships. Focus on actions you can take to "transform" the dead / un healthy relationship

In essence the indicator of a good relationship is many things including spending quality time.

Dont worry - be happy !!!!
