Happy Thanksgiving : Expressing my gratitude

Gratitude is an important positive feeling. It generates a sense of well being in our brain (and body). Thanksgiving around the world is a symbolic time and space (& a powerful trigger) to spend time with people we care about. To boldly say what we feel appreciative about.

In that spirit here goes my list for 2012.

I am thankful for :

1. My Kids who are turning out to be sensitive, value driven and positive human beings. They have their head and heart at the right place.

2. Rajeev who has (and will) stood by me in all my dreams and beliefs.

3. My mother who has been my back bone and has kept me grounded.

4. The karma quotient (doing a good deed every day) my parents have deeply instilled in me that compels me to reach out to the less deserving.

5. My family - real (blood), adopted and acquired for being with me (when asked and most times when unasked)

6. My friends (my guardian angels)- new and old (physical, social and virtual) who have in their own invisible ways been co travellers in my journey as a professional, mother, learner and writer

7. The lakes, trees and birds that are still a part of my daily living space.

Have you made your list and shared with people you care ? Happy Thanksgiving

I end with a short story to help us value what we have :

Heart of Gratitude...

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said :  ' I am blind, please help.'  There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, "Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write? "

The man said, " I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way."     I wrote : ' Today is a beautiful day but I cannot see it.'
