We went to Singapore for our end of year vacation. It was the first International trip with kids.
1. Travelling my public transport
3. Exposure to new culture & way of living
Kids absorb diversity like a sponge. They bring no personal baggage and are much more accepting than adults.
There were memorable instances when the kids communicated without the need for a spoken language.
Overall it was a worth while trip.
We tried to balance the typical must dos that tourists do and understanding the local way of life.
Hope this is the beginning of many new experience !
Happy new year
Here are the few firsts for the kids
1. Travelling my public transport
The well developed metro (MRT) and bus network was outstanding. We used it exclusively during our week long stay. This ensured that the kids walked a lot and were tired by the end of the day. It was also a learning opportunity for my son to use route maps. I wish we can model this mode of travel in India.
The food streets in Singapore are a great option for inexpensive eating. There were some restaurants offering fusion dishes. If you eat meat and fish, the choices can be overwhelming. The kids began eating out of their comfort zone.
